Why do so many centenarians live in Sardinia?

People in this area are culturally isolated and have maintained a very traditional and healthy lifestyle: they still hunt, fish and gather the food they eat.

People who live in strong, healthy families suffer lower rates of depression, suicide and stress.

What are the other Bleu Zones in the World?

Okinawa, Japan: Known for its high percentage of centenarians, the Okinawa diet is rich in vegetables, soy, and fish, with a low caloric intake. The inhabitants also practice “hara hachi bu,” the habit of eating until 80% full.

Loma Linda, California, USA: This community of Seventh-day Adventists is distinguished by a life expectancy higher than the American average. Their longevity is attributed to a predominantly vegetarian diet, abstention from alcohol and tobacco, and the importance placed on family and community.

Nicoya Peninsula, Costa Rica: Here, longevity is fostered by a strong social network, a diet based on corn, beans, and vegetables, and an environment that encourages daily physical activity.

Ikaria, Greece: On the island of Ikaria, the population enjoys significant longevity, aided by a Mediterranean diet, regular physical activity, and strong social bonds. The afternoon nap is also considered an important contribution to their health.

What is the origin of carapigna?

The origin of carapigna dates back centuries, when it was produced using the technique of preserving ice and snow collected during the winter in special snow pits or ice houses, which were then covered with layers of straw and earth to insulate them and maintain the cold.

During the warmer months, the ice was extracted and used for the preparation of carapigna and other chilled drinks.
